Charles Scriven was one of the first African American officers in the Jacksonville Police Department, joining in 1955. He faced discrimination throughout his career, being denied membership to the Fraternal Order of Police multiple times. In 2018, current FOP President Steve Zona drove to Tallahassee to apologize on behalf of the organization for their discriminatory actions against Scriven. On June 18th, 2019, Scriven was finally honored as a member of the FOP with a public apology from Zona.
