Charles and Jeanetta have been married for 68 years and served the area’s homeless population through cooking and serving food. They were both nominated for Silver Stars, an honor they found unbelievable. The couple started their outreach ministry at Tallahassee Corinth Christian Fellowship with just 14 members.

Charles has had a long career of public service, including 20 years as a Jacksonville policeman. He was also appointed the first black Jacksonville Police Chief in 1973 and served on the Parole and Probation Commission from 1975-1987. In 2020 he received the Florida Sheriff’s Association’s Distinguished Service Award.

For 20 years Charles was chaplain at Big Bend Hospice while Jeanetta volunteered with Meals on Wheels program and helped write CRMC’s newsletter “H2U.”

The work of the couple has been amazing over the years as they have selflessly given back to their community in many ways. Most recently, they were both nominated for Silver Stars, an award presented by the Boy Scouts of America to honor adults who have made significant contributions to scouting programs. While they were both surprised by the nomination, Charles said it was “humbling and overwhelming” to be recognized in this way.”

The couple has spent a lifetime serving others and their commitment is an inspiration to us all. Their work is a shining example of what it means to truly care for your community. Thank you, Charles and Jeanetta, for all that you have done!
